Online course: Understanding trauma

This Solihull Approach online course ‘Understanding trauma’ is for practitioners working with children, families and adults.

The aim of this course is to deepen understanding of the effects of trauma, the recovery process and how society can support recovery from trauma. The course integrates this with the Solihull Approach model.

What does it include?

Type 1 and Type 2 trauma. The window of tolerance. Stages of going through a traumatic experience. Neurology and trauma. Recognising trauma. Recovery from trauma. SELF model. Trauma, attachment and epigenetics. Community trauma. Organisational trauma. Trauma aware community.

How does it relate to the Solihull Approach model?

For those who have completed the Solihull Approach 2 Day Foundation course, this online course will enable extra layers of depth, helping both ways: increasing understanding of the model and its applications as well as using the concepts to illuminate an understanding of trauma. It will help move theory into practice.

This is a Solihull Approach Advanced training. This course will contribute to Solihull Advanced Trained Practitioner status.

For those who do not know about the Solihull Approach model there is a brief introduction in this module and containment and reciprocity are mentioned throughout the course. To make best use of all elements of the Course it is an advantage to have completed the Solihull Approach 2 Day Foundation training. Your local area may put on the Solihull Approach 2 Day Foundation training or there are regular trainings in Solihull, West Midlands.

How long does the course take?

This course is not as long as a 30 credit Open University course, but neither is it as short as an online half hour mandatory fire training course. If you did it all at once, which we don’t recommend, it might take you at least four hours. We don’t recommend doing this course in one go, because the advantage of doing a course online is that you have time inbetween Modules or Units to process your learning and to see it in the world.

This online course covers the same material as the face to face Solihull Approach Advanced training on ‘Understanding trauma’. The advantage of the face to face course is that you can discuss issues with other people and share examples. It is also easier to complete, because you have booked out the day in your diary. The advantage of the online is that you can stop and think at your own pace and look things up if you want to.

What does it cost?

£45.
